Communications Officer
Mike Parkin
Communications Officer
My career at the Guinness Trust started in January 2006 and since
then, no two working days have ever been the same!
Due to the nature of my job it is almost impossible to describe
a "typical" day - there is no such thing, but there are a number of
important roles that I play on a regular basis.
As a member of the communications team, I often have to respond
to enquiries from the media. This means that I have a lot of
contact with a huge number of colleagues up and down the country,
who provide me with the information I need to pass on to the press.
This is an aspect of the job that I enjoy hugely as it means I get
to speak to staff at the Trust that I wouldn't ordinarily come into
contact with.
My job requires me to have input into most written material that
is published by the Trust. This could mean organising a
photographer to take pictures for the Annual Report, writing
stories for the Intranet or Internet site, or helping to put
together residents magazines.
The branding of the Guinness Trust is also the responsibility of
the Communications team. This means that I have to make sure staff
use the right Guinness Trust logo, in the right style and colour
wherever it is used - on badges, on the side of vans, signage,
headed paper and a hundred other places!
As with most office jobs, there is also a steady stream of
emails, telephone calls and meetings to deal with, any of which
could be the start of another exciting project. Working at the
Guinness Trust has allowed me to put to use a wide range of skills,
working in a very friendly environment, in which everyone enjoys
working towards the same goal.
