Moving out

If you want to leave your Guinness home and end your tenancy, the first thing to do is to complete a Notice to Quit form and send it to your local area office.

Please give us at least 4 weeks notice of your leaving date and remember, if you are a joint tenant, make sure that both parties sign the notice to quit form.

We will also ask for your new address and arrange a date for you to hand back the keys to our property.

Remember to:

  • Clear any outstanding rent arrears
  • Leave your home clean and well decorated
  • Remove all the floor coverings including grippers (unless you have agreed with your housing officer to leave these for the new tenant)
  • Tell the utility companies and housing benefit office that you are moving out

If you have money problems, please talk to your housing officer immediately. And visit our Managing Your Money page in the Rent and Money Matters section for sources of free, independent financial and legal advice.
