Community events in Marlborough

Throughout the year our Community Investment team organises a variety of community events across the Marlborough area.  Many of these are aimed at children and young people, but there are also many opportunities for adults to come down and take part as well.

Below are just a few examples of recent events that the Marlborough team have helped to organise.  For further details on these, or any future events that may be coming up, please contact Shauna Bodman, Community Investment Officer for Marlborough and Bracknell by telephone on 01672 518666 or via email at shauna.bodman@guinness.org.uk.  Please also keep an eye on our latest news page for details of all the latest upcoming events.

Some examples of previous events in the Marlborough area

Boyd Court, Bracknell  - Tues 31 May and Thurs 2 June 2011

The refurbishment of the Boyd Court Play Area will be tackled as part of a Community Investment Project during the June half-term holiday. After consultation with residents, it has been decided to provide an area for basket ball, re-paint the existing climbing frame, repair seating and introduce some raised beds which can be ‘adopted’ by our more ‘green fingered’ residents. It is hoped that we will have vegetables, herbs and flowers a plenty, in the new beds.

Stockbridge Copse, Swindon - Fri 3 June 2011

As part of ongoing Anti-Social Behaviour work in this area and to continue working with the young people, it has been agreed to hold a mosaic workshop during the half-term. Young people will design the lay out ready for construction during the summer holidays. This is all part of the previously launched Children’s Charter which was a successful event held during February half-term.

Launch of Children’s Charter, Swindon - Feb Half Term 2011

The Children’s Charter is a joint agency project which encourages young people to sign up to a ‘good behaviour’ programme. After a nominally agreed time, residents will be consulted on how individuals are behaving and these young people will be put into a PRIZE DRAW. As part of the day a ‘smoothie’ bike was used to encourage healthy lifestyles and a 3 minute chocolate cake was made in the microwave. This project was very successful and is to be rolled out throughout the Marlborough office area.

Respect and Reward Event for Devizes - Autumn 2010

Moyne Close recently underwent a re-vamp. Old play equipment was removed to make way for a football play space. A group of very keen young people turned up with equally enthusiastic adults to saw, paint and erect a new ‘football people’ fence surrounding the space. The end result was a bright and cheerful area which the young people take great pride in. The whole team worked extremely hard and were rewarded with an afternoon of bowling.
