Sustainable Development

Jaywick, Essex

Timber panelling on Jaywick, Essex

Creating thriving communities that enhance the local dynamics and help reduce environmental impacts is a key part of our development philosophy. We have embedded the Economic, Social and Environmental strands of Sustainable development in our business practices demonstrated through previous development schemes. Design principles such as pepper potting and in-depth assessment of socio-economic data help shape the scheme design and ensure that our developments have a positive impact on the existing community. Environmental assessments help minimise our use of resources and energy over the life span of the development.

Careful design and material selection combined with low energy requirements in-use, ensure that even innovative schemes can still reflect the built environment traditions of an area. Urban village design principles are common to many of our flagship schemes and based on years of design experience captured in two publications:

  • Landscape Design Guide
  • Planning and Architecture Guide
