The Aspire Awards were able to help the pantry buy the equipment needed to get the project off the ground.
Real life shopping experience
The pantry is based in an area of high deprivation and poverty in Sheffield. The pantry model works really well as it allows people to have a real life shopping experience where they get to choose what they want instead of being given a box of ingredients from a food bank type of scheme. The Aspire Awards were able to help them to buy the equipment needed to get the project off the ground.
Boosting self esteem
There are a lot of people struggling to pay their bills and finding themselves in food poverty. This is such a worthwhile project as it boosts people’s low self esteem by them becoming a member of a club where they get to help themselves and receive budgeting advice.
