Extra care

Our extra care homes are purpose-built apartments designed to give you a little extra support when you need it.

Our extra care homes

We build our one or two bedroom apartments around communal facilities. They’re designed with plenty of places to meet up, chat and socialise, so you can get to know your neighbours.

Each of our extra care homes is different, but communal facilities might include:

  • assisted bathrooms
  • spas
  • cafes
  • launderettes
  • medical consultation rooms
  • restaurants
  • gardens
  • lounges
  • shops
  • balconies or patio doors.

You’ll also have access to 24-hour care.

Applying for an extra care home

First speak to your local authority and see if extra care is right for you. There’s often criteria you’ll have to meet. Usually you have to be over 55, with a care need.

Give us a call on 0303 123 1890 (Monday to Friday 8am to 8pm) to talk about your options.

How much does extra care cost?

You’ll pay rent to live in your extra care home, which will depend on your home and council, or some extra care homes can be bought.

We may have some extra care homes that you can buy through shared ownership. You buy 75% of the home, and we keep 25%. You won’t pay any rent on the part we own. We’ll advertise these on our Guinness Homes website when they’re available.

You’ll also pay us a weekly service charge, which covers all the building and gardening services. And there might be a separate, weekly wellbeing charge. This covers our 24-hour care from our trained staff who will:

  • deal with any emergencies
  • organise fun, health-promoting activities
  • manage the scheme.

Paying for your care is simple

We can send you a bill, set up a bank transfer or a direct debit.

We have a dedicated team to answer any questions about your payments and statements. Call us on 01392 686 383 Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm.
