National Apprenticeship Week 2021
Jake Day

Jake is a Multi Skilled Plumber in our responsive repairs team and recently completed an apprenticeship in Plumbing and Property Maintenance.

Jake Day2We spoke to Jake about his apprenticeship and what made him decide to pursue this career path with Guinness.

Why did you choose an apprenticeship?

I chose an apprenticeship as I wanted to work straight out of school and college instead of going to university. I have always wanted to have a trade and one of the best ways to do this is by completing an apprenticeship.

Did anyone help to influence/support that decision?

My dad was in the trade himself and I wanted a similar life to him as I have always looked up to him. He was really supportive and wanted to help as much as he could.

What has been the highlight of your apprenticeship journey?

Making lifelong friends, becoming a qualified plumber and being given the best chance possible to make something of my life.

Where do you see yourself in five years’ time?

I see myself still working for Guinness as a Multi Skilled Plumber and building my skills with the organisation’s help.

What advice would you give to somebody thinking of going into an apprenticeship?

I would say don’t hesitate at all and just go for it. It was the best decision I ever made in my life as it has given me a really good chance to be who I want to be.
