The benefit cap
comes into force this week

07 November 2016

The benefit cap starts this week, as part of the government’s welfare cuts.

This change will affect anyone that’s applying for benefits from today, and will be rolled out to people already on benefits in the future.

The benefits you receive will be capped at £23,000 a year in London and £20,000 outside of London. The caps applies to households, not individuals. If someone in the household is working 16 or more hours per week, the cap will not affect you. There are other exemptions – you can see the full exemption list on the Citizen’s Advice website.

Take a look at our short video explaining how this change affects you.
