Since 2009 our Aspire Awards have helped over 300 customers get back into work, change their career path or make their community a great place to be. In total, Guinness has invested over £360,000 in training, equipment, travel costs and community projects.
A new career
This round of awards has helped our customers complete a variety of qualifications and training, from project management courses to training in sign language, counselling, nail art, swim coaching, accounting and much more.
Customer Holli, who received an Aspire Award to fund two nail art courses, said, “The difference the Aspire Awards has made to my career is – I’ve got a job! I was a stay at home mum, but now I work at one of the best nail salons in London. It’s also given me the confidence to apply for more courses. It’s amazing, I really appreciate it.”
Investing in communities
We were also delighted to approve 12 grants in our Community category. Introduced in 2016, this category is aimed at improving the neighbourhoods our customers live in. This year’s projects included a summer play scheme, community gardens, computer equipment to help customers improve their IT skills, a mosaic project, a food pantry and summer outreach projects for young people aimed at reducing anti-social behaviour in our communities.
