There are over two million people living alone over the age of 75, and with loneliness playing an important factor in mental health and wellbeing, our Guinness Care and Support teams make sure our older customers always have a friendly face to chat with.
This weekend we’re celebrating our older customers with the International Day of Older Persons and the fifth annual Silver Sunday – a national event that aims to combat social isolation and loneliness in older people by organising fun events and raising awareness.

This year’s theme for the International Day of Older Persons tackles ageism. Getting older doesn’t ever have to mean slowing down – just look at our Guinness Care and Support customer – Ray Webber.
At 93 years old, he’s a published poet, with his debut collection – High on Rust – coming out earlier this month. He’s been writing poetry for more than 50 years and has received rave reviews for his book.

Everyone feels better after a quick catch-up or chat with an old friend. It gives us a chance to connect and feel cared for. So we’re encouraging our care staff and customers to take five minutes to chat with an older relative, friend or neighbour and see what a difference it makes!
