Celebrating The Great
Get Together

20 June 2017

This weekend saw communities up and down the country take part in The Great Get Together – a national street party in honour of MP Jo Cox.

Great Get TogetherIt was a great opportunity for people to get together and celebrate what we all have in common – proving there is more that unites us than divides us. Communities are really important to us at Guinness, and we loved the idea of our customers spending time together, which is why we wanted to be part of the event.

Cakes, customers, street parties and staff

We backed the initiative by offering funding for customers who wanted to host an event – and they certainly took us up on the offer! We received applications from customers arranging street parties, BBQs and cake baking, and lots of our sheltered and extra care schemes had a ton of fun with coffee mornings, lunches and quizzes.

Staff across Guinness also got involved, holding Great Get Together events in our offices. There was fancy dress in Crewe, a giant buffet in Oldham, a photo booth in London and cupcakes in Bristol.

Celebrating our communities

Adele Potter, Head of Communications at Guinness said: “It’s been fantastic to receive so many applications from our customers and schemes for Great Get Together funding towards their events.

“It was such a wonderful thing to be a part of, and it means a lot to us that our customers, as well as our staff, wanted to get together and celebrate our communities across Guinness. It looks like everyone had a great time and we’re really pleased to have played a small part in that.”
