Colville mural project

21 April 2016

Our DIY skills day at Colville Court, a housing scheme for over 60s in Nottingham, was a roaring success.

Colville mural projectOrganised with one of our contractors, Bell Group, residents painted a mural at the scheme. Staff member, Tracy Ault, arranged for local art tutor Linda Robson to help.

Residents loved the idea and settled on a tropical scene as their chosen image. The ‘Colville Jungle’ was born!

“Linda took away our ideas and created some drawings. We used an overhead projector to project the drawings onto the wall,” explained Tracy. “Bells Group provided us with paint and brushes. Ellen Garton, their resident liaison officer, joined in with the painting.”.

Resident feedback

The residents; Kevin Moore, Roy Fletcher, Wendy Johnston and Moira Sellers also attended the sessions. Their feedback beautifully illustrates the power creativity can bring to a community.

Kevin: “The mural project is something different, a chance to socialise with other residents.”

Wendy: “It’s kept me busy and out of my flat getting to know my neighbours.”

Moira: “It’s built my confidence and it is a chance to socialise with the neighbours.”

Roy: “It’s been good fun and enjoyable. I have been able to meet other people living at Colville Court.”

“The residents have been great,” added Tracy. “They’re now all working towards a qualification from the local college.”
