Construction starts on new homes in Tolworth

28 October 2021

We’ve started construction on the first phase of our development at Signal Park in Tolworth, South West London. Bringing this long empty site into use will provide hundreds of homes over coming years and make a huge difference to the community.

The 11-acre site of former government offices, and the famous Toby Jug pub, has been vacant for almost 20 years and is directly adjacent to Tolworth station.  Our new development will address housing need in the local area, with the first phase providing 211 homes and later phases providing a further 739 homes.

High quality, environmentally friendly homes

Signal Park will have high environmental credentials , with a purpose-built energy centre, and heating provided through air source heat pumps.  The design also includes landscaped green roofs and sensitive landscaping with wildlife friendly planting to maximise biodiversity.

As well as a focus on high quality homes, there will be a strong emphasis on the quality of community space.  The scheme will include a new bus stand, a cycle hub, and a café centred around a new public square.  In addition, amenity space will be provided with podium gardens, a play area, and a community centre and commercial space.

Bringing the community together

Along with our investment in the local community, through groups such as Community Brain – who are currently using part of the site as a community garden – Signal Park will contribute to developing a local workforce for the future, with the various stakeholders involved in the development, hiring and training people locally.

We celebrated the milestone with an event attended by our Chief Executive, Catriona Simons, and Lovell London and Southern Managing Director, Stuart Gibbons. We also welcomed Royal Borough of Kingston Councillor Thay Thayalan, and Robin Hutchinson, Director of local community group, Community Brain.
