Delivering free books for World Book Night

23 April 2021

Today is World Book Night, an annual celebration that brings people of all backgrounds together for one reason – to inspire everyone to read more.

WorldBookNightWe were successful in our application for 160 copies of a specially commissioned book for this year’s World Book Night, Stories to Make You Smile.  And our Social Investment team purchased a further 160 books – copies of Jack Monroe’s Good Food for Bad Days cook book – so we could gift books to more residents.

Our Customer Liaison Officers have been out and about this week on our estates delivering the books – in a safe and socially distanced way. Over 300 customers have been able to benefit from a free book and this small, surprise gesture from us, has brought lots of smiles during these tough times.

David from Crewe commented: “It’s a really good idea to let people know you are thinking of them. Thank you very much Guinness!”

And Bev from Stockport said: “It’s a great idea and a lovely gesture by Guinness.”

DavidFrom tonight the special book is available digitally for free – you can download Stories to Make you Smile or one of the other three audiobooks they have on offer through their website here:
