Developing Leaders and Managers at Guinness

06 September 2022

At Guinness we believe that developing skills and capabilities is one of the ways to improve our performance and achieve our objectives. That’s why we have a range of tools to help new managers and leaders grow and get support in their careers.

In the past couple of years, 22 of our colleagues have achieved their Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) accreditation through our Guinness management programmes.

Achieving a qualification

Our two core manager programmes (Management Fundamentals and the Guinness Managers Programme) offer delegates the opportunity to achieve a level 3 or 5 Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) qualification. ILM is at the cutting end of leadership and management training and its standards are recognised internationally.

In the last 12 months seven of our colleagues have achieved an ILM accreditation. They have all completed assignments alongside the training and have gained an accredited management qualification funded and supported by us. This is in addition to 10 colleagues who graduated last year.

A better understanding

Cat Parsons, Health and Wellbeing Coordinator at Guinness, who achieved the ILM Level 3 qualification, said about her experience:

It’s been good to work alongside managers from other service areas – all who had a wealth of experience to bring to the course. It also helped me get a better understanding of the breadth of work Guinness does.

Beyond Now

We also have an emerging talent programme, Beyond Now, which is a 15-month development journey for colleagues that demonstrate potential and commitment and want to develop their careers at Guinness.

The programme includes masterclasses developed by our leaders and bespoke training sessions on core topics important to Guinness and the social housing sector. Colleagues develop management, leadership and business skills as well as broadening their horizons by working on a live business project.

We’re really proud that during our first programme four of the participants received a promotion. A huge congratulations to them and everyone that has taken part in our courses and qualifications over the past year.
