Doris celebrates 90th
birthday in lifelong home

11 January 2016

On 6 January, Doris Davies, who lives in a Guinness property in Southwark, south east London, celebrated her 90th birthday at home with her two nieces.

Resident Doris celebrating her birthdayDoris was born in a flat at her housing scheme in 1926 and has lived there her entire life, moving only once to her current block when the buildings were redeveloped in the 1970s.

We believe she holds the record for having the longest tenancy with us.

To celebrate the significant milestone, we hand-delivered a personalised birthday cake to Doris, along with a letter from our chief executive and some historic photos of the area, dating as far back as 1890.

Doris said:

“This is a wonderful surprise. I wasn’t expecting anything so I really appreciate these gifts. Seeing the photos of the area from when I was a little girl has brought back some great memories.”

Her niece, Patricia Bygrave, who was also born in the same flat as Doris, said: “Several members of our family were born here so it means a lot to us that Guinness is celebrating with us.”
