Employer of the Year: Central YMCA Annual National Apprentice Awards 2023

11 May 2023

We are pleased to announce that we won Employer of the Year at Central YMCA’s Annual National Apprentice Awards 2023.

Hosted by Dame Rosie Winterton MP, and sponsored by Sanctuary House, the Awards ceremony showcased learners who overcame barriers through drive and persistent support from tutors and employers to gain qualifications that made a positive change in their lives.

Presenting at the ceremony, Minister for Skills, Apprenticeships and Higher Education Robert Halfon said: “These awards are a reminder of the power of apprenticeships, and I am delighted that the winners are successfully climbing up the ladder of opportunity by establishing a rewarding career path.”

We work with Central YMCA at a national level, delivering horticulture and landscaping apprenticeships across eight different sites.

We were recognised for the support we give each apprentice as well as how we prioritise apprentice progression.

Jo Fullerd, Senior Learning & Development Administrator, (pictured here with Andrew Beal, Chair of the Board at the YMCA), received special recognition from the organisation. They said: “Central YMCA would personally like to thank Jo Fullerd who is an inspiring individual that makes the process for the apprentices seamless. She keeps apprentices engaged with an approachable manner that supports positive outcomes.”

After accepting the award on behalf of The Guinness Partnership, Jo said:

Hearing about all the apprentices, reminds me of the ones we work with at Guinness. We support them with anything we can, even out of their apprenticeship. From managing stress levels, and boosting confidence, to time management and money matters. Our job is to make sure that we give them everything they need, so they can succeed.

Thank you to Jo, to our apprentices who are doing great work, and to all our Guinness colleagues for making a difference in so many lives and communities across the country.
