Guinness partner with other housing providers to celebrate Manchester Pride!
28 August 2019
As part of our commitment to our LGBT colleagues and customers, we teamed up with seven other housing associations as part of our alliance with House Proud, sector-wide LGBT employee group to celebrate Manchester Pride 2019.
What is Manchester Pride? And what is the theme?
Manchester Pride is one of the longest-running LGBT celebrations and took place over the August Bank Holiday weekend. It’s a celebration festival of the LGBT community, highlighting the importance of equality and the need to continue to challenge discrimination.
This year’s Pride theme was ‘Deep Space Pride: Future World of Equality’, which highlighted the importance of remembering the past, but also to look forward to a more hopeful and equal future. This year commemorated the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots, an important historical event where members of the LGBT+ fought for equality in the United States.
To celebrate this year, all 65 volunteers wore House Proud t-shirts designed by Guinness on a space themed float, decorated with balloons, banners and a more than our fair share of glitter. Volunteers and onlookers had a great time, singing and dancing throughout the day, with sweets being given away to the packed out crowd in the sunny streets of Manchester.
Working together with local housing associations
For this year’s Manchester Pride, we teamed up with seven local housing associations – Great Places, Equity Housing, Salix Homes, Irwell Valley, Riverside, Stockport Homes and MSV Housing. This was a great demonstration of people across the country coming together to celebrate the LGBT community, highlighting the importance of equality and fair representation within the housing sector and beyond.
Thank you to everyone who took part in the parade and helped to share an important message!
