One of our commitments are part of our Anti-Racism Statement was to promote the representation of Black and Minority Ethnic colleagues.
Working with UNIFY (the housing sector’s BAME network) and Gatenby Sanderson (a specialist recruitment company) we’ve been part of shaping Leadership NOW, a six-month development programme for ethnic minority individuals within the housing sector.
The aim is to accelerate greater leadership diversity within the social housing sector and create a safe space for current and future leaders from ethnic minority backgrounds achieve their aspirations.
The programme is split into two parts. The first is focused on career strategy, the recruitment process and making an impact during the application process. The second part is focused more on leadership skills and building confidence and strength in this area.
The unique aspect of this programme is the tailored experience it provides. Personal objectives and goals are developed at an individual level early-on and followed up with one-to-one coaching and personal career conversations throughout the course. Attendees are also supported after the programme with access to a variety of development material.
Alongside others in the housing sector, we’re really pleased that five Guinness colleagues have taken part in the pilot of this programme and we caught up with them to hear some of their reflections so far:
