Customer Leslie Norah HillsLewes artist Leslie, who’s in remission from cancer, decided she wanted to fund raise for Cancer Research UK. “I wanted to put something back to express my gratitude for my renewed health” she explains.

She lives at Leighside House, where she spends her spare time painting portraits and landscapes. She donates the money made from selling her paintings. And so far, her artistic efforts have raised a whopping £18,000.

“I can only describe Leslie as ‘artist in residence for Cancer Research UK’” said Dawn Gibbs, a retirement living advisor at Leighside. “Leslie is an amazing lady who’s dedicated to raising money for cancer research.”

By royal appointment

This May Leslie was invited to the Cancer Research UK head office in London.

After a talk from a Cancer Research UK scientist, she joined her fellow fundraisers on a chauffeur ride to Buckingham Palace. At the palace, she got to meet the Queen, Prince Philip, Prince Charles and Princess Anne at one of the famous garden parties.

Her talents also saw her singled out for a conversation with noted art enthusiast, Prince Michael of Kent.

“Prince Michael appeared and we had an interesting conversation – he also took a brochure of my work!” says Leslie. “It was a wonderful day. It’s been an immensely enjoyable experience, which I’m very grateful for.”

Congratulations Leslie, from the whole team at Guinness Care and Support.
