22 June 2015

It’s National Recycling Week and this year we're focusing on recycling around the home.

Recycle week 2015Recycling in the home

You may already be in the habit of recycling in your kitchen; making sure you put glass, cans and plastic bottles in the recycling bin.

But there are also plenty of things you can recycle that can found in your bathroom and bedroom. Did you know you can recycle:

  • toothpaste boxes
  • toilet roll tubes
  • shampoo bottles
  • moisturiser and liquid soap bottles
  • deodorant
  • shaving gel aerosols?

Checking for recycling symbols

Did you know that up to 60% of the rubbish that ends up in our dustbins could be recycled?

Remember to check packaging for recycling symbols, as they’ll help you identify how different types of packaging can be recycled.

If you’re not sure what you can recycle and where to do it check out Recycle Now’s recycling locator.

So why should we recycle?

  • Recycling helps reduce the mount of raw materials we need, which in turn protects natural habitats, like rainforests and coral reefs.
  • There’s less need to extract, refine and process raw materials, all of which causes pollution.
  • Recycled materials use a lot less energy than the amount needed for making new products from raw materials.
  • When we recycle we reduce the amount of rubbish sent to landfill sites.
