09 January 2019
Naomi Asare, an 18-year-old student from Nottingham, has won a top award from The Guinness Partnership housing association to fund her nursing studies at the prestigious King’s College London. Naomi has wanted to study nursing since childhood and is the first member of her family to go to university.
The Aspire Award was given by The Guinness Partnership to the most impressive student application in the ‘Your Degree’ category. The grant is available to Guinness customers to cover undergraduate university tuition fees for a year. It was judged on how committed Naomi is to her chosen degree and what kind of difference it will make to her life.
Naomi is now studying a BSc (Hons) in Adult Nursing at the world-renowned Florence Nightingale Faculty of Nursing, Midwifery and Palliative Care at King’s College, London.
“Moving to London has been both terrifying and exciting. It is a huge change to my life. But I love my course. It is hard work, but so varied – I am loving studying at the university campus at Waterloo, and then doing practical work at both Charing Cross and St Thomas’ Hospitals. I have access to excellent teachers and world class researchers – I can’t believe that I have been given this opportunity.”
“This award from The Guinness Partnership is allowing me to focus and dedicate all my effort on my university education without having to worry about the financial side of things. It means that I can concentrate on nursing. I am so grateful for this support.”
Sarah Thomas, Executive Director of Customer Services for The Guinness Partnership and Aspire Award panel member said:
“Over the last 5 years, The Guinness Partnership has given more than 270 customers Aspire Award grants to help pay for education courses, training and equipment or grants to support community projects. Very well done Naomi for winning this award. I am so pleased that you are settling into life at King’s College and we wish you the best for university and your future nursing career.”
