We recently took advantage of the lovely summer weather to get out and about with our customers in Crewe for a ‘blitz day’, working together to improve their shared spaces.
Mavor Court is a community for older people and working people over 35. Together they armed themselves with tools and gardening equipment, rolling their sleeves up to tackle some real gardening work.
Volunteers from the National Citizen Service (NCS) came along to help as well, as part of their summer programme. NCS are experts at helping to build a more cohesive, mobile and engaged society. By bringing together young people (aged 15 – 17yrs) from different backgrounds for a unique shared experience, NCS helps them to become better individuals, and in turn better citizens. With the help of NCS we were able to bring together the Mavor Court community to achieve some great results and were amazed at how easily everyone worked together to get the job done.
Guinness staff worked alongside the residents and NCS volunteers (in fantastic fancy dress) to put up bird boxes and benches, clean windows, litter pick, carry out some gardening and generally tidy up the area. A local charity very kindly donated the benches and bird boxes which were a very welcome addition to the 38 homes in Mavor Court.
The day was a huge success with neighbours talking over tea and biscuits, meeting and making new friends and helping to create a great community spirit.
If you think your estate or scheme could host a similar blitz day, get in touch and let us know. We may just ask you to get your gardening gloves out!
