We want to say a huge thank you to The Wishing Well, a registered charity based in Crewe. The organisation is doing some fantastic work at the moment to improve the health and wellbeing of vulnerable people living in the local area, including many of our Guinness customers.
They provide a variety of services to young adults and older people including outreach work and activities. Alongside this they also run luncheon clubs, have a community café and provide bistro services at our Pickmere extra care scheme.
During the pandemic, The Wishing Well has had to stop providing most of their regular services. Like a lot of us, they’ve adapted their work and are currently focussing on supporting vulnerable people in the area. They’re providing meals, shopping services, medication pickups and carrying out telephone calls to people in the community including many of our customers in our sheltered courts and general housing.
Since March they have delivered over 5,500 meals, provided almost 700 shopping calls, collected over 50 medications and made 400 befriending calls. Some very impressive numbers!
Charles Maines, Wishing Well CEO and his team recently received a wonderful bit of recognition. A letter arrived from the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire, David Briggs MBE, written on behalf of HM Queen Elizabeth, thanking Charles and the team for their magnificent contribution during this emergency. Very well deserved indeed.
